Name: La Favorita Comidas Leyva’s (in Dairy Way Food)
Address: 5235 W Davis St #101, Dallas, TX 75211
What I ordered: Tacos (barbacos, pastor, carnitas, fajita, and asada)
Review: I’m not ashamed to admit that I found this place on accident. I saw a sign on the front of a somewhat sketchy convenience store in Arcadia Park that said “Taqueria Leyva” and made a U-Turn to check it out. I’m so glad that I did. I thought I had combed through most of the places in West Dallas, but this one was a gem. Like a few of the other spots I’ve been too, it is a little kitchen inside of a convenience store (this one is inside Dairy Way Food) ran by one person. You ordered from the cook and then paid at the store, before bringing your receipt back to him.
I wanted to try so many things but ended up just getting tacos (five of them though). I tried the barbacoa, pastor, and carnitas (my usual staples) plus fajita and asada. I’m fairly certain the tortillas were homemade. I saw him take them out of a dish and cook them. They were definitely delicious and had a nice brown grill to them from the flat top. The meats were also fantastic — tender yet crisp on the edges. They were also well marinated and flavored. The tacos came with a dish that had four bowls — one of onion, one of pico de gallo, one of red salsa, and one with green salsa. There was no cilantro, but the spice was enough that you don’t need it. I really enjoyed the salsas, although they were a bit runny. Overall really good flavors and a friendly hole-in-the-wall vibe. Truly a hidden gem.
